Amy Essen grew up East of Calgary in a musical family of 7. Classically trained in piano since young, she holds an ARCT in Piano Performance and an ARCT in Piano Teaching from the Royal Conservatory of Toronto . Never afraid to learn something new, Amy started vocal coaching with Tamara Beatty as an adult.

Amy has over 20 years of music teaching experience, is a multi-genre songwriter, and regularly plays keys with her church family Experience Church. Choirs have always been a passion of hers, whether the children’s choir she first sang with, to the Youth Choir she started directing at 18 years old, the choir she started in the Philippines as a young adult, or the most recent children’s choir she’s worked with to record and perform for Creature Teachers.

On the personal front, Amy is the wife of Joe Essenburg (who plays Bass with the New West Society), and they have 4 beautiful children 8 and under as well as two cat fur babies.

Community and music go hand in hand for me. Whether I’m jumping around singing for a kids concert, writing a song, or on stage playing keys with my church family, I put my heart into each musical moment.
